Jackie Bradley Jr. sure looks ready, but that’s not what the decision is about. The longer you can hold onto your own players through their initial deals and arbitration, you have to do it. Don’t be confused by people saying the Red Sox owe it to the fans to put an exciting product on the field, or that Bradley is ready. He sure looks it. But that’s not the issue. The issue is service time, and delaying Bradley’s free agency is the most important thing facing the team right now.

With Morales and Breslow both out, we know a few things. One: Andrew Miller will see a lot of playing time early on as the lone lefty. I’d also say those of you buying into Jon Heyman’s “Cut Aceves to teach him a lesson” argument will be disappointed. The bullpen is supposed to be a place of strength for the club, so cutting into its depth is not going to be an option.

(He shouldn’t.)
Former prospect Westmoreland retires from baseball
Sad to see someone so young struck down by illness, but his statement sounds relatively composed. The 22-year old is moving on to a life outside baseball.
