I took a look through SoxProspects’ draft history page to try to spot some trends in the Sox’ high draft picks. Last year, the team’s only draft under Ben Cherington, four of its top five picks — including all three first rounders — were out of college, and four out of five were pitchers. In the last three years, the team kept up its college-first focus, with eight of 10 first rounders being collegiate players, although the team took more chances on high schoolers in the second and third rounds.

Former Sox drawing many suitors in the offseason
Jed Lowrie and Kevin Youkilis are in demand. What can the Red Sox’ trades of the two teach us about what to do this offseason?

We may have seen the last of Cody Ross
Will the Red Sox go to three years for Cody? I have my doubts.

Glad to see them avoid any knock-down, drag-out arbitration fight.

Dangerous territory. I look at the options the Sox have with last year’s MVP candidate. Would it actually make sense to trade him?

WEEI’s Alex Speier brings up a great point that the mystery teams in Detroit and Los Angeles made this year’s free agent first basemen market difficult to feel out. Good thing we locked up Adrian Gonzalez when we did.
